It Forgets You (2011): In the winter of 2011 I returned to the town where I grew up. My parents had moved away several years before, and I hadn't been back since then. What I found was a place that was at once achingly familiar, but which had moved on from the place that lived in my memory. We like to think that when something or some place leaves its mark on us, it, too, retains some imprint from us. But it doesn't really work that way. You may not forget it, but eventually it forgets you.
